The Cornell Institute for Biology Teachers
Announces the 2008 Molecular Biology Summer Workshop for Teachers

July 6-18th
Cornell University Campus
Ithaca NY

For the 18th year, we are offering our Molecular Biology Summer Workshop for Teachers. Twenty teachers will be chosen to participate in the workshop. Participating teachers will earn a stipend of $300. Two hours of graduate credit are optionally avaialable for $875/credit. In addition, teachers will receive all materials presented in class and will have access to molecular biology equipment from our Equipment Lending Library. More details on alumni benefits can be found here. The workshop is open to high school and upper level middle school teachers.

Topics covered will include DNA techniques and their use in science research and forensics, protein techniques, reproduction, and human health and microbiology.

Participating teachers will be housed in a Cornell dormitory. Workshop days will include lectures on molecular biology content, classroom and lab activities, field trips to nature sites near Ithaca, and lectures by Cornell faculty on current research. The schedule from a previous summer program can be seen at 2007 Summer Biology Workshop.

The workshop will begin on July 6th with a welcome dinner and networking activities. The schedule on Friday, July 11th will end mid afternoon so that participants will be able to travel home for the weekend or enjoy Ithaca.
